WTF is Lanxess ?!?!?

In the last few years a lot of sport arenas (football, hockey) got a new name, because some sponsor paid a lot of money for it. There is the Allianz Arena in Munic, the Signal-Iduna-Park in Dortmund, the AOL Arena in Hamburg and lots more. When Düsseldorf got a new hockey arena a few years ago with the name ISS Dome, we Cologne fans could make fun of that name, as we like to make fun of everything Düsseldorf does. The Cologne Sharks played in the Cologne Arena, and with all the new and paid for names everywhere else, we could feel unique. And we did and thanked God that we didn’t have to live with some company’s name for our home arena.
The city of Cologne didn’t contribute financially to running the arena, so it probably was just a question of time, when we had to get off our high horse and joined the sad sports fan who have to endure a stupid new name for their home arena.
So although I knew it would probably happen eventually, it still was a shock when I read it in the newspaper this morning. Who the f*** is Lanxess? How do you even pronounce that? And don’t get me started on the complicated spelling.
I was about to write that it’s a sad day for hockey fans (at least in Cologne), but than I had to think of Luc Bourdon and realized, that a stupid new name is nothing to get upset about. It’s just a name after all…
