Today’s Leftovers, 3rd issue, 2010

I finished listening to the last book of the audiobooks of the Outlander novel series and I’m tempted to start all over again. The same kind of withdrawel I lived through after I had finished readling all the books in the summer of 2009. I just LOVE this epic story and Davina Porter, who narrates these audiobooks is doing such a fantastic job. I usually prefer reading to listening, but she made listening such a pleasure. But it will be nice to tackle some written novels for a change :-)

I managed to cut back on the ibuprofen for my shoulder pain over the last two days and just held the pain at bay with ice pack and rest. Today though I woke up with quite some pain and even though I tried to rest the shoulder, I only managed to do that to some extent. When I got back home from a trip to the supermarket, I took 1 and 1/2 of the ibuprofen, because I recalled something with “1/2” for maximum single dose. When I checked it again later it turned out to be max 1/2 – 1 pill *g*. Oh well… in the paragraph above it’s said that the maximum single dose is supposed to be 800mg. I took 900mg, so it’s not really a big deal. And it DID help immensly, so…

Two more days of my vacation have almost passed and I still haven’t done a lot of the things I wanted to get done in these two weeks. I’m such a slacker.

I have to go to a funeral tomorrow :-( The patriarch of a family I grew up with died on Saturday. It wasn’t that unexpected, because he has had various health problems over the last few years, but it was still a shock nonetheless. It wasn’t just me that grew up with his kids, but in fact my dad and he became friends in kindergarten almost 75 years ago. My dad died over 20 years ago (and this family helped us and especially my mom a lot during those sad days and weeks), the other family’s mom died six years ago. Now my mom is the only one left of these two married couples. It’s kind of scary.

My 2nd job is just a part-time job (at the most 3-5 hours/week ) and I do this work from home. So as I am home during my vacation and as my boss had some assignments with a deadline I completed these tiny tasks he asked me to. A bit unwillingly though. And not the most diligently either, I’m afraid. I already found a tiny mistake in one document. It’s no big deal, but it still bugs me a little. That I made the mistake and that I had to do the work in the first place.

This morning I read this article “Wir müssen die Welt retten” (only available in German) in the real “printed on paper” *g* edition in the weekly Newspaper “Die Zeit”. A journalist returns to his highschool 20 years after his graduation, because the school will be torn down. He talks to some of his former teachers and I thought it was really interesting to read. Because even though it wasn’t my school and even though I’m a few years younger, his portrayal of some of his teachers seemed very familiar. Some of my own teacher were a lot like those he talked to. If you have a few minutes, read it. Maybe it will make you think a little bit about your own teachers, how you saw them then and how you might see them today. I did at least I still don’t feel much inclined to go visit and talk to them though :-).
