Jumble of Thoughts #008 (Work, Vacation, Guilty Pleasures and my Car)

And then all of a sudden it’s another three weeks without a blog post *sigh* I’m just too busy or too tired (from the busy days) to sit down and write a bit. I really should try to just find the time more often… but who am I kidding? Anyway, I’ll give it a try again. Today. For a short update at least before I’m heading to Scotland for a 2-week-vacation. Yay! A vacation I so desperately need to calm down, even though it won’t be the most relaxing, because we’ll be driving a lot and staying in various different places. But just to be somewhere else without obligations to do stuff for work but instead spend the day just like you want to, will provide the needed stress-relief, I think.

I’ve spent the last few days in both jobs getting all important stuff organized so that it will be uncomplicated to handoff the stuff I was working on and my responsibilities to the person who will take over my job, when I leave at the end of August. I still can’t quite believe that it’s only three weeks until I will start my new job. A job I’m very much looking forward to.
A few days ago I had a very informative and pleasant meeting at my future work place with the head of my department and the head of the division, well my boss and my boss’s boss as I don’t know if I’ve chosen the right English terms for their positions. Really nice guys and I’m very optimistic that I’ll enjoy working in their department. Every once in a while I start to doubt if I’m actually really up for the job, but I guess I’ll just have to wait and see and hope for the best ;-)

Yesterday there was the last work meeting in my old job (at least with the whole group of people I worked with over the last few years). I almost didn’t realize it was the last meeting until my boss presented me with a farewell present: a plant for my new office at my new job. I’m really going to miss those guys, because for the most part we got along very well. But I’m confident that it will be similiar in the new job. I guess the real “OMG I’m leaving those guys for good” panic will happen on 30 August. We’ll see.

I missed most of the Olympics this week because of all the other stuff that I had to take care of and once I’ve lost track of most of the events I wasn’t so enthusiastic about it alltogether. It’s sad, but I obviously somehow got totally out of the loop and didn’t manage to get back in. But I did watch the Beachvolleyball Final yesterday and was so happy that the German duo won the game in the end. It was a great game and a lot of fun to watch and worth staying up even though I was a bit tired. Busy week and all.

Something else that’s keeping my attention away from the Olympics is my new guilty pleasure, the novel Gabriel’s Inferno (By now I’ve already started the second novel Gabriel’s Rapture). According to some online sites the story started as a Twilight fanfic just like another novel that’s been quite successful recently ;-) I have read a few excerpts of “50 Shades of Grey” and wasn’t impressed and did not at all understand what the fascination of this book. I thought the writing was horrible and the graphic sex scenes of this kind of sex did not really turn me on. Here, I admitted it.
Anyway, when I heard about Gabriel’s Inferno on Twitter I thought I’d check it out, because as much as I usually enjoy complex and well crafted and wonderfully written novels, sometimes even I like the mundane, cheesy, bubblegum kind of literature as well. I tore through the first three Twilight novels within two weeks, I think. Even though I haven’t ready FSOG, I’d say the literary quality and the whole set up of the “Gabriel’s…” novels is somewhere between Twilight and FSOG, so… yes on the lower end of the scale, but I don’t care.
Especially when my mind is busy with important stuff all day, I need something which doesn’t require a lot of concentration to understand it. And the story of dark & mysterious Gabriel and sweet & innocent Julia did the trick. I rolled my eyes a few times because it’s too cheesy and too far fetched, but it had me interested enough to keep reading. I finished the first novel in two days after all. Most of that I managed to read on the train on my way to work yesterday though. It’s an easy read and it’s a nice escape to just steal away for a few minutes in a busy day.
I can’t do the “stealing away for a few minutes” with TV shows, which I usually mode to relax, because these days it’s not so easy to get 45 uninterrupted minutes to watch an episode. So a few minutes of reading is a much better idea.

Oh and last but not least I still owe you a few photos of my car. I don’t know what I would have done without it this week, because getting to all the appointments and meetings and shops this week while just using public transport would have been a disaster. It was stressful enough as it was. So YAY for having CJ at my disposal. In case you haven’t read my last blog post or in case you have read it but haven’t figured out the registration plate hints. My car is called “CJ” :-)
I didn’t managed to take a few shots of the inside yet, but trust me it’s very nice, sporty and I’m a bit in love with it’S entertainment centre (ok, it’s just a radio, but with USB so I can easily hook up my iPod and I can control it all from the steering wheel, which is pretty awesome. I think).

I’m determined to write a few posts about the trip to Scotland while I’m actually on the trip, but I don’t want to promise anything. I don’t get around writing something for weeks while I’m here at home so why should it be different when I’m on vacation? But maybe I’ll have so many nice things to tell you and pictures to share and stuff. I don’t know. I guess there will be a few Instagram pix so you might want to check for the gallery in the right column at least..
