The Joy Of Being a Godmother…

He asked me to watch you as you grow,
To hold your hand through the highs and lift you up from the lows.
(Song For Eva Mae – Frank Turner, 2011)

I spent Friday afternoon and evening with my six months old goddaughter, her twin sister and their mum and dad. And I went back home with a tons of respect and admiration for my friend and for parents of babies in general. Twins especially. That’s a hard job to pull off day after day. And those two are easy going, healthy babies. I was still exhausted by the end of the day ;-)

Part of it might have been due to the fact that I didn’t sleep a lot the night before and that I’m seriously out of shape. And if you’re out of shape kneeling, sitting, crouching on the floor to keep active babies entertained can be exhausting. Not to mention carrying 12 pound of baby around for a while. I’m such a whimp, I know. But seriously, previous visits took place on the weekend and it was both of us godmothers and the twin’s dad was at home as well, so there were more hands on deck and the little ones were younger and less active. But by now you really have to keep a close look on them, when you let them play on the ground or they will have tumbled under the furniture in a blink of an eye. So, I really bow to all you parents for doing the job you’re doing!

It’s a lot of fun though and fascinating to see them change and grow and learn and evolve with every month and to see them just be adorable baby girls in general. I didn’t have a lot of close up experience with babies before, because most of my cousins who have kids live far away and I haven’t seen them in ages and none of my close friends had kids before either. So this is a first for me as well and I love every minute of it, exhaustion or not. And I guess, that’s the way it’s supposed to be, right :-)?
