Mumford & Sons Show on 14 May 2016

This post has been on my “to-write” list for two weeks now and instead of this one I wrote about a TV show, my vacation and a shopping spree today. *sigh* I wanted to share a few photos from the Mumford & Sons show I’ve been to mid May. So here I go…

I discovered Mumford & Sons via Spotify two years ago or so. At that time when they were taking a break and I thought they might not get back together, which I back then thought would have sucked. I still do in a way, even though I’m not a huge fan of their new sound. I love the banjo / folk vibe of the first two albums. The latest one is more mainstream rock. Not bad, but not that special either. To be honest I wouldn’t even call myself a huge Mumfords fan. I don’t know the lyrics by heart, I can’t tell which song is on which album or even name the title of all or each songs. I don’t search for interviews or clips of them online. I like listening to their music, that’s about it. But when there became tickets available for their almost sold out show on a Saturday in a venue less than 45 minutes drive from my home, I snatched one up regardless of all of that. And I had a great time all in all.

It took me a while to get into the right mood during the show though. Maybe because I wasn’t on the floor but had a seat? Maybe Probably because Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls are such a great live band, that they set my bar pretty high for anyone else to follow. And that’s not the other bands fault, but my own. Mumford & Sons played a >10.000 people venue, so of course their show would feel different and had to be on a bigger scale than most of the Frank shows I’ve been to. And that was fine, I just had to get used to it.

There were two really incredible moments who made up for every reservation I might have felt during the show. I posted photos on Instagram the night of the show and the day after. During one song Marcus Mumford stepped down from the stage and started to walk along the barrier while he kept singing. He then proceeded up to the first tier and all around till the back of the venue. Where he then stepped down to the floor and walked all through the crowd up to the front, where the security hoisted him back over the barrier and up on stage again. All the while he kept singing and dancing and having a great time. And I bet so did the lucky people down there. It was such an awesome moment!

The other incredibly memorable moment was the first part of the encore. They came back out but not onto the main stage, but on a small stage behind the sound desk. It was a lovely idea to make the evening a bit more memorable for the audience at the back of the venue. They did two songs, just with acoustic guitar and banjo, almost accapella. These guys really have such beautiful voices and it was such a treat to hear them in this pure form. Definitely a moment to remember.

I posted that photo just a few hours after the show and one of the first accounts to like it on Instagram were Mumford & Sons themselves. *squee* I bet that contributed to the high number of likes it got :-)

One of my favourite moments from tonight's @mumfordandsons show. The first part of the encore took place on a small stage behind the sound desk. I tried to regram a great clip of this, but videos seem to lose in quality in a regram, so I deleted it again. @papierstern captured a bit of the moment on video… #100happydays #day13 #happy #mumfordandsons #mumford #band #music #folk #acoustic #guitar #banjo #memories #bestmoments #concert #live #tour #favouritemoments #accapella #happiness #bliss #beauty #voices #ig_europe #ig_worldclub #worldingram #ig_captures #ultimatecaptures #music_captures

And here is Marcus once again in the crowd….

The other quite mindblowing moment at the @mumfordandsons show last night happened, when during one song Marcus stepped down from the stage, walked along the barrier, up to the first tier and all around till the back of the venue. Where he then stepped down to the standing room and walked all through the crowd up to the front, where the security hoisted him back over the barrier and up on stage again. All the while he kept singing and dancing and having a great time. And I bet so did the lucky people down there. It was such special moment.
