I’m using the daily NaBloPoMo prompt today, so I can keep others idea I might have to the days when a) the prompt doesn’t work for me and b) I have more time/energy to come up with an idea an write a lengthy post about it. That’s not to say, that this post won’t be long. I don’t know… I just got started.
Today’s NaBloPoMo prompt is:
Can you listen to music and write? What song did you hear today?
My first impulse was to say: “Sure, I often even turn the music on, when I start writing, because I find silence too distracting” Yes, “distracting silence” sounds like a contradiction in itself [I know there is a word for that but I’m too lazy to look it up now]. And it’s not even true, because unless I’m writing a post that doesn’t require a lot of thinking – like answering a short meme – I usually turn the music off again after a while, because the music makes it impossible for me to hear my thoughts. Especially when I’m trying to figure stuff out for myself while I’m writing. Whether that’s a blog post or a diary entry or a mail
or a letter. [I haven’t written a real letter in ages! Except for official letters to the bank etc.]
Anyway, if I’m honest I have to answer that question with “No, I can’t listen to music AND write”. And maybe that’s not a bad thing, because I’m starting to believe that I would live a less stressful life if I’m more “attentive, present and just be in the now”. So that’s what I’m trying to do.
Well, that wasn’t a lengthy post after all. And maybe I should put “My new love for square brackets” on the list of possible topics to blog about :-)
