Recap of the Gathering 2016 (Outlander Convention)

I – obviously – didn’t manage to write this post while I was on vacation or in the days/weeks after that. Now five weeks after the event quite a lot seem to have slipped my memory already, so I somehow can’t be bothered to write a detailed recap anymore.  I hope this will teach me something for the future.

Anyway, here are my pictures again at least and a bit more to read below them.

All in all I had a nice time at the Gathering, even though there have been a few glitches in the organization. I had some nice chats with other Outlander fans, but I didn’t make any new friends in the “let’s stay in touch and all” sense. But that’s fine, I admit I didn’t really set out to do that at this event. Maybe because I’m still a bit wary of the whole fandom at the moment. I’m also a bit wary of people in real life in general. I can’t help it :-)

Enough about me: Quite a few actors from the show made an appearance at the Gathering: Graham McTavish (Dougal) and Duncan Lacroix (Murtagh), which I had both seen/met at RingCon in Germany last year. They were joined by Grant O’Rourke (Rupert), Finn den Hertog (Willie), Lotte Verbeek (Geilis) and on Sunday Annette Badland (Mrs. Fitz). And all of them were so lovely. Open and entertaining and funny and kind and all a fan of a TV show could ask for. My Con Ticket included autographs of everyone and I had planned to only take a photo with Grant, because I like his character so much and I like Grant on Twitter. But then Finn looked so cute and Duncan was so nice and funny again, so I decided to have photos with them as well. All photos turned out great. Grant and Duncan really pulled you close in a way, I wouldn’t have dared to get close up myself. But hey, a girl doesn’t complain, right?

The panels were very entertaining as well, some stories have been told before, some where new, all were interesting and or hilarious. It’s been fun to watch the guys and Lotte (and on the 2nd day also Annette) interact so friendly with each other. The whole cast really seems to have a lovely bunch of people and I really hope to meet them again at another convention or premiere or whatever event.

Phew! Managed to at least put some kind of Gathering post up before the season 2 premiere ;-)
